Monday: Brookfield Zoo with my mom, sister, brother, and niece. We made quite a crew with a stroller, a wagon, and a wheelchair! Weather had been calling for 80% chance of rain/thunderstorms so we were prepared with raingear and plans to hit all the indoor exhibits. Turned out that it didn't rain at all until the very, very end. Literally, the family was just finishing their dipping dots and Ellie was working on a bottle when the downpour came. Could have been a lot worse! Ellie was pretty disinterested in most of it but seemed to be able to see and follow the dolphins and sea lions. Next trip might be to the Shedd. We will see.
Tuesday: We stayed home for the most part. Ellie had an afternoon doctors appointment for her six month check-up and shots. She is 26 1/4" long, weighs 14 5.5 pounds and is a strong little girl. She loves her solid foods and rolling all around the house. She puts everything she can get her hands on into her mouth (paper is her favorite and dirty shoes). She is getting better at sitting but still not there yet.
Wednesday: We had plans to go to an indoor pool with a mommy group we go to. Ellie however woke up with a little bit of a fever (less then 101F) and was just in general acting like a sick little baby. Not very cranky but just wanted to lay around with us and cuddle. That was fine with me! Eric left to go out of town to see a friend so me and Ellie just laid low and monitored her fever and played and slept.
Thursday: Eric's first vacation day that he spent with us. We ventured into the city and visited his office where Ellie was the center of attention the whole time :) And she just ate it up. Then we drove over to the Field Museum (free day) and looked at all the animals and dinosaurs. We were all pretty tired and wanted to beat rush hour so we headed home early afternoon.
Friday: Was our big trip. We drove out to Galena to see one of Eric's old friends and hang out with his family. We also drove into Dubuque and got lost trying to find my old apartment and my college. Its been 12 years since I was in DBQ and man did I not remember how to get around that town! We did finally find the college and I took them through a brief tour of Emmaus. Emmaus isn't that big so yeah, it was pretty short :) The fun stories are about Galena though.
Story #1. What is a road trip without a poopy diaper story right? Well, pretty early in our trip we heard Ellie farting, no big deal she does this alllll the time. She was fed just before we left and didn't start fussing till we were 3/4 of the way there so we didn't stop for 3 hours. We get to our friends house and Eric takes her out of the car seat while I prep a bottle. As soon as I get to her I 1) smell the poop 2) see the poop on Eric's arm and 3) inform Eric of the blowout and take my poopy mess of a baby into the house while holding her bottom half as far away from my clothes as possible. Finally find a surface that is cleanable if the poop got away from me and changed the blowout. Thank God for always having a change of clothes for her! Lesson learned: don't wait 3 hours to change your child when she hasn't had a morning poop!
Story #2. At the end of our time in Galena we met his friends at my favorite pizza place Happy Joes. They even have a gluten free crust now so I thoroughly enjoyed my taco pizza. Before the pizzas came out appetizers were delivered to the table (that I couldn't eat because of my gluten issues) so Eric and I both assumed our friends had ordered them. Both our order numbers were on the table to we didn't think anything of it. Our pizzas came and we ate, fed Ellie, and were on our way out when his friend thanked us for the appetizers. We then informed him that we didn't order them. We were outside at this point trying to figure this out. If we didn't order them, and they didn't order them, then who did and why were they delivered to our table! He thought it was the lady that ordered between my order and his and recalled her going to the counter to ask where her food was but never registered that they had delivered them to wrong table (well after they had been eaten anyway). So in the end, they enjoyed two free appetizers on Happy Joes. They need to read their order numbers a little bit better!
Ellie had just about had it with being in the car on the way home. We had to stop, reorganize the car so I could sit in the back with her, make her another bottle, and sit with her the rest of the drive home. Then she was happy as a clam. I guess 6 hours in the car was a little too much for her for one day. About 9:30 she finally fell asleep in her crib and slept till 1:30am and then till 6:30. I'll take that.
Now for the pictures!
